Your Eating Clean Issue
Your personal trainer and dietitian will agree: 80 per cent of your fitness success is credited to your nutrition. Quality calories and scheduled meals are as key to fueling your workout as they are to speeding your recovery from exercise. Whether your foremost concern is weight loss or reclaiming healthy eating habits, it's often easier to eat well than to exercise regularly. To start your first week of 2010 on point, here are two well-chosen books and a website to help you keep your resolutions and return to clean eating.
Food Rules
New York Times bestselling author, Michael Pollan offers 64 smart, practical pointers in his new book, Food Rules: An Eater's Manual. His breakthrough book, In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto, compelled millions of people to learn how to eat well. The Omnivore's Dilemma became popular because of Mr. Pollan's sensible approach to finding solutions to healthful eating that jive with the environment and with a busy lifestyle. This is where Food Rules shines. This week, Jennifer Bain at Healthzone.ca dishes up an express sneak peek in her article, "Michael Pollan Offers 64 Rules for Eating Well". Additionally, you can read a few more of his food rules such as #39 Eat all the junk food you want as long as you cook it yourself, from Mr. Pollan's article on Huffington Post.
Detox Diet
"You will emerge from the other side of your 8-week detox just as I did: feeling energized, focused, healthy, alive and, most importantly, quite thankful that Alex was there to help," said Morgan Spurlock, creator, director, and star of Super Size Me about The Great American Detox Diet. His fit-to-flab documentary caused a sensation among viewers who could see the negative effects of a fast food diet on a healthy person. After gaining 30 pounds over the course of a month and losing his health, Mr. Spurlock turned to Alex Jamieson, a vegan chef and holistic health counselor. Ms. Jamieson's plan reversed Mr. Spurlock's conditions in two months. A book in three parts, it begins her journey from junk food to a vegan diet, followed by a week-by-week detox diet and nearly 90 recipes to help you discover the joy of healthy eating. Published in 2005, The Great American Detox Diet is a brain-tickling read, even if you only change a few things about your diet with a few smart swaps.
